PHILOSOPHY
The Three-Pronged Approach
If the students enjoy the music they are working on, they will go to the piano of their own accord, and enjoy the time they spend there. Each student’s books and pieces are tailored to their individual needs based on age, learning speed and musical tastes. Students also vary in their strongest natural learning styles. Learning to play the piano should incorporate learning to read by note, by ear and by improvisation, so that every student’s natural gifts have a chance to flourish and shine.
Starting in our first lesson together, we will begin the first steps of learning to read by note, chord symbol and ear. My students enjoy the fast learning curve they achieve through my streamlined and customized instruction. Lessons with me are fun, individualized and musically diverse.

AS WRITTEN
As Written is the most traditional method of the three. In this method you learn to read the notes and rhythms exactly as they are written on the page. I also integrate technique and music theory into every single lesson.

CHORDS & IMPROVISATION
Here we learn how to play and read chords and chord progressions. Â This is a more free-form style of playing, that still incorporates reading music, but is more focused on improvisation and creating your own arrangement of a piece.

EAR TRAINING
In Ear Training, I will teach you step-by-step how to play music entirely by listening to it: no reading involved. We'll start with interval recognition, and by the time we're finished you'll be pulling songs by ear off the radio!
